Issues In Cornelius NC

Issues In Cornelius NC

Simply stated, my priorities are exactly those of the citizens of Cornelius. I will be a strong advocate for:

  •  Improved infrastructure and traffic flow
  • Support safety in our town and on the water
  • Expanding our parks and greenways
  • Support smart economic growth to better balance commercial / residential tax

ACCELERATE TOWN ROAD PROJECTS

NCDOT recently announced delays and cost over runs for projects that impact our regional corridors ( Hwys 115, 21 , 73 and West Catawba). As Mayor, I will work with the other Lake Norman area Mayors to pursue additional funds from NCDOT to complete these projects. It is clear we should no longer wait to work on local roads to improve connectivity within our town.

ENHANCE COMMUNICATION

As Mayor, I will work to increase the impact, reach and engagement of our citizen and town board communication.  Here are a few quick examples/ideas

  • Provide regular traffic / transportation updates at every board meeting.
  • Include information from metro mayors and Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO) meetings
  • Enlist our planning department, Lake Norman Economic Development Council and an outside consultant to update our Comprehensive Master Plan beginning with a downtown small area plan.
  • Provide regular updates from
    • Metro Mayors meetings, LKN Economic Development and Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO)
    • Meetings with Lake Norman Mayor’s to discuss NCDOT projects that impact our regional  Also discuss other “regional " issues ie: affordable housing
  • Significantly increase our citizen email list and outreach on priority topics
  • Bring Planning Board, Transportation Advisory Board and Town Board together on a regular basis to discuss growth  and our Land Use Plan

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Town Board and citizens look to the Mayor to set direction… a “scorecard” will be established to measure success. And report out to our citizens. In other words… “say what you are going to do and do what you say!’

  • Establish a mayors performance scorecard
  • Include progress on local road improvement projects

Growth Management

  • Review and correct zoning / land use plan disconnects
  • Utilize excess General Funds to "Land Bank" green space
  • Provide details of towns overall "tree save" plan

Regionalism

Working with the mayors of Mooresville, Davidson, and Huntersville to address Lake Norman Area issues provides the strength of over 250k residents.

  • Coordinate with Lake Norman Area mayors to address:
    • Affordable housing
    • Traffic Congestion
    • Infrastructure improvements
